The sun shone brightly on us yesterday afternoon as we hosted our first Year 7 10s tournament.  Five schools, Denefield, Kennet, Little Heath, Theale Green and Willink entered and an afternoon of high levels of endeavour enthusiasm and rugby skill was enjoyed by over 70 Year 7 boys.  The tournament played on a league basis to West Berkshire Competition rules saw some fiercely competed matches between players who in many cases clearly knew each other very well and no quarter was asked or given.  It was great to be able to provide these lads with some competitive game time which can prove difficult to arrange in the crowded schools calendar.

Congratulations to Theale Green Year 7 who eventually triumphed unbeaten, although they were pushed hard by Kennet and Little Heath particularly.  All the players that took part should be proud of their efforts though.  All matches were played in the great rugby spirit and were a pleasure to referee.  A massive round of applause to every player and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Certainly the feedback at the time was very positive.

A big thank you to the schools for releasing their pupils for the afternoon and to the members of staff that accompanied the teams and managed them so well.

Finally I should like to thank in no particular order Dave McAteer, Paul Nash, Tank, Beccy, Leona and Denise from ARFC for their help and support on the day.

Phil
